Abstract

The magnetic equation of state of the randomly diluted dipolar coupled Ising ferromagnet LiTbpY1−pF4 has been measured over a reduced temperature range of approximately two decades near the critical point using a sensitive SQUID magnetometer. This is the first investigation of the equation of state of a randomly diluted magnetic system at marginal dimensionality (d*=3). Measurements were made at Tb concentrations of p=0.90 and p=0.63 in order to examine the critical behavior for widely differing degrees of dilution. The data have been compared to three different renormalization group (RG) calculations of the equation of state. For both concentrations, a randon nonasymptotic form of the equation of state is found to give the best description of the critical behavior.
