AT PRESENT the majority of experts seems to be in agreement on the general nature and content of the Foreign Language Curriculum in the secondary school. Thus while the following description and discussion of the Foreign Language Curriculum is based on the bulletin French for Secondary Schools (Bureau of Secondary Curriculum Development, New York State Education Department), other state bulletins or documents1 could have been used without coming to significantly different conclusions.
