Abstract

On September 12- 13, 1983, hearings-called by a special task force created by Health and Human Services Secretary Margaret Heckler-capped an 18-month effort by APhA and the National Wholesale Druggists Association (NWDA) to have the federal Maximum Allowable Cost (MAC) program publicly debated.APhA and NWDA are leading the call for an end to MAC on the grounds that it has proven to be an unconscionable burden to pharmacists. APhA officials led off the opening session of testimony, preceding some 29 other statements from representatives of pharmacy, industry, and government. Excerpts from the APhA testimony are contained on the following pages.
