Abstract

Measurements are reported of the low temperature (1-4K) specific heat of a range of f.c.c. nickel based containing Ti, V, Cr or Mn. The principal objective has been the determination of the contribution which is linear in temperature ( gamma value). Alternative analyses are presented for critical concentration alloys which exhibit clustering effects. In NiCr, NiV and NiTi the gamma values are much larger than expected. For NiMn there is reasonable agreement with present theory, though some unexplained anomalies are also found. New low temperature measurements of saturation magnetization in NiTi alloys are included.
