Abstract

ABSTRACT The field of camping was traditionally a setting where group workers were abundant. This paper reintroduces the idea of camp as an ideal setting for social group work practice. Through literature from the fields of camping, recreation, and experiential education, five social group work principles are identified that show the strong relationship that group work has to these fields. By guiding the reader through a discussion of these principles and their relevance to camping, the argument is made for the rejuvenation of camp as an appropriate and important setting for social group work
