Abstract

A total of 71 Pakistanis, both male and female skilled migrants and who had arrived in Australia, were selected for this study on their long term settlement and changes in their education, employment, income and English language profiles. These migrants were permanently living in Melbourne at the time of interview and could provide detailed information about their progresses in settlement. The study reveals that Pakistani residents in Melbourne have achieved good progresses in areas of further education and training, finding in suitable jobs, increasing in their income and most importantly, in developing their skills in English language. Improvements in those four very basic aspects of settlement were indispensable part of their successful settlement and functional integration into the host Australian society.
