Abstract

This paper was read as part of the first Anglo-Romanian geographical seminar held at the Royal Geographical Society in September 1972. It traces the symptoms of malaise in British heavy industry and then, concentrating on location, examines the question of rationalization, particularly in the light of competition from our EEC partners and in relation to regional planning considerations. The paper was prepared before the publication of the British Steel Corporation development plan.
