Abstract

1. 1. A partial separation of the two components of vitellin, the yolk phosphoprotein of frog eggs, was obtained utilizing an ultracentrifugal technique. Phosphorus/nitrogen ratios revealed that the slower sedimenting component of vitellin is the phosphoprotein. 2. 2. The addition of calcium chloride to vitellin, and ultracentrifugal separation of the components, demonstrated that the phosphoprotein component can selectively bind calcium.
