Abstract

1. 1. Measurements of the redox potential values in physiological solutions containing slices of isolated, pigmented ganglia of molluscs and frog brain, respectively, have revealed that molluscs contain a specific electron acceptor substance which prevents the rapid decrease of the redox potential even after the total exhaustion of the oxygen content of the solution. 2. 2. This electron acceptor substance is soluble in ethanol. 3. 3. It is most probably identical with the lipochrome pigment localized in the granules called cytosomes.
