Abstract

Work rules on allowable types of employee speech are often intended to help employee morale and company reputation. Further, the employer's intention to comply with equal employment opportunity laws by discouraging harassment can lead to rules that require employees to refrain from certain types of outbursts or conduct. Few could argue that such rules serve a valuable purpose in the workplace.
