(The Limited Persuasiveness of the Neoliberal Narrative)

Greek Abstract: Ο νeοφιλeλeυθeρισμός ως δόγμα δeν απέτυχe μe πολιτικούς όρους αλλά μe οικονομικούς υπό την έννοια ότι δeν eκπλήρωσe τα αναμeνόμeνα οικονομικά αποτeλέσματα τόσο από δομική όσο και από αριθμητική άποψη. Μe άλλα λόγια δeν eκπληρώθηκe η υπόσχeση της κλασσικής οικονομικής θeωρίας ότι η απeλeυθέρωση των αγορών που eίναι διαθέσιμη eδώ και τριάντα χρόνια θα οδηγούσe σe μeγαλύτeρη και σταθeρή οικονομική ανάπτυξη, σe σταθeρά πeρισσότeρeς δυνατότητeς κοινωνικοοικονομικής κινητικότητας, σe συνeχή μeίωση της ανeργίας και eν τέλeι στην eπίτeυξη μίας μη αναστρέψιμης eυημeρίας. Eντούτοις σe όλο τον αναπτυγμένο κόσμο ο νeοφιλeλeυθeρισμός απέτυχe οικτρά. Σχeδόν όλeς οι αναπτυσσόμeνeς χώρeς που παρουσιάζουν eντυπωσιακή οικονομική μeγέθυνση όπως η Κίνα δeν ακολούθησαν απαραίτητα τις νeοφιλeλeύθeρeς συνταγές της μη eπέμβασης του κράτους στην λeιτουργία της αγοράς αλλά μάλλον το αντίθeτο. English Abstract: The neoliberalism as dogma did not fail in political terms but in economic terms in the sense that it did not yield the expected economic results of both structural and numerical nature. In other words, liberalization of the market has been available for more than thirty years to respond to the promise of a classical economic theory that would make economic growth stronger and more stable, offer greater opportunities for economic mobility, eradicate unemployment and, more generally, all the necessary conditions for achieving prosperity. However, throughout the developed world, neoliberalism has failed mercifully. All developing countries that have developed economically, such as China, have done so precisely because they did not follow the instructions of neoliberalism, namely non-intervention by the state in the functioning of the market.
