Abstract

Supersymmetric theories are renormalized only by the D-term renormalizationcounterterms, and hence divergences in a nonzero tadpole may not be eliminated by the usual shift of a field, which would introduce unnecessary F-term counterterms thereby destroying renormalizability. Based on this observation, we argue that the presence of the light singlet field does not destroy tree-level gauge hierarchies in supersymmetric GUTs.
