Abstract

Depolarized photon correlation spectra of two fragile glass-formingepoxy molecules of different molecular weights are reported. Thecorrelation function of the simplest molecule showsstretched-exponential behaviour, while deviations from this formhave been observed for the larger molecule, suggesting the presenceof a second, long-time power law. The relaxation dynamics issuitably described for both systems in terms of a probabilisticapproach based on the tool of the limit theorems of probabilitytheory. On the basis of this theory, the presence of the long-timepower law can be related to the existence of intermolecularinteractions, while the stretched-exponential behaviour of simplemolecules can be obtained in the case of negligible long-rangeinteractions.
