Abstract

TWO things strike one on handling the beautiful new book on Harvey by Sir Geoffrey Keynes published last year by the Oxford University Press. The first is a bewilderment at the achievements of this giant of a man who lived three centuries ago, and the second is an unbounded admiration for the diligent research of the author, which enabled him to construct such a remarkable account of so many of Harvey's previously little appreciated activities. In his preface Sir Geoffrey points out that the emphasis in this book is on the character of Harvey rather than on his scientific work, . . .
