Abstract

Summary Adult cocoa mirids namely S. singularis and D. theobroma were confined to chupons growing from the stumps of coppiced mature cocoa trees with a large wooden cage in the field. Records of mating, oviposition, and nymphal development were made daily. The maximum number of eggs laid by a female S. singularis and D. theobroma were 65 eggs and 73 eggs, respectively. The incubation period for eggs of S. singularis and D. theobroma were 13·1 days and 14·0 days, respectively. In both species, there were five nymphal instars and development from egg to adult lasted 34·4 days for S. singularis and 41·2 days for D. theobroma.
