Abstract
This paper is a personal review of the life and career of Peter Fookes, probably the most influential engineering geologist of his time. It includes personal recollections, a review of his 200 technical publications, his professional career and his influence on how geotechnology is viewed and used by the civil engineering profession. Perhaps his greatest epitaph is the development and use of the Ground Model.
