Abstract

In this chapter, the author argues that while in India an emphasis is laid on the technical fields of medicine and engineering, the importance of liberal arts in higher education must not be ignored. The liberal arts impart invaluable skills that we take for granted, probably because they are less easily noticed in our culture or perhaps because they are wrongly considered skills that anyone, regardless of education, can attain.
