The Li 7(p, α)He 4 reaction with polarized protons in the 3.2–5.3 MeV energy range

Abstract

The Li 7(p, α)He 4 reaction was studied with polarized protons in the energy range 3.2–5.3 MeV at 30° and 50° laboratory angles. Between 4.3–5.3 MeV a strong variation of asymmetry in the angular distribution of α particles is present. The variation of asymmetry makes it very difficult to use the Li 7(p, α)He 4 reaction in a proton polarimeter in the 4.3–5.5 MeV energy range.
