Abstract
Gradualness and inclusiveness, the main features of the lexical system, underlie the formation of synonymous, thematic, lexical-semantic paradigms etc. The establishment of pragmatic relations is subjective and is focused on the capacities of selection and substitutions. The purpose of our paper is to reveal the role of synonymous series in structuring the language semantic dimension through the organic exteriorization of the semantic aspects of similarity at the level of lexemes in medical terminology. We also pay special attention to the difference between the lexical-semantic group and the synonymous series, which consists in the presence of the degree of the integrative and differential components generalization. The core seme in the lexical-semantic group has a lower level of complexity and abstraction compared to the dominant synonymous series.
