Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop thrombus formation by ligation and endarterectomy (L + E) in carotid artery in rats. Unilateral common carotid artery (CCA) ligation and endarterectomy were performed in 15 rats with microsurgical techniques, and 15 rats were used as a control group. The thrombus formation was examined after days 1, 3, and 7 and months 1 and 3. Local thrombus was revealed in ligation of the common carotid artery. The thrombus formation did not extend further than the bifurcation of the CCA in the L + E group.
