Abstract

SummaryA continuous Lembert suture was used for closing the vaginal vault in a consecutive series of 230 patients having a total abdominal hysterectomy. The incidence of vault granulation eight weeks after operation was seven per cent and less than half of the patients with granulations had associated symptoms. When chromic catgut was used for the vaginal vault and linen thread for the main pedicles granulations occurred in 10.8 per cent of patients, but when Dexon was used for both the vaginal vault and for the main pedicles the incidence was only 2 · 7 per cent.
