Abstract

The prominent position of aesthetic surgery within the plastic surgery specialty is a relatively recent phenomenon. There was a time, not so long ago, when “proper” plastic surgeons who performed aesthetic surgery would not openly discuss it with their peers. Aesthetic procedures were done only in small private hospitals, not in university centers.
