Abstract

Neutrinoless double beta (0νββ) decay is a powerful tool to investigate lepton number violation and to assess the neutrino nature. Among many experiments in the field, LEGEND-200, will search for 0νββ decay in 76Ge, using about 200 kg of germanium detectors deployed in ultra-pure Liquid Argon (LAr). The LAr is used as cooling medium and active scintillation veto through LAr instrumentation. The LAr instrumentation was one of the key factors in achieving the lowest background index and the best half-life sensitivity in the previous GERDA experiment. Thus an upgraded version with improved optical coverage, is adopted in LEGEND-200 to actively veto background events in the region of interest, i.e. around the Q-value of the 0νββ decay.
