The Legal Systems of Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasty: The Legislative Progress and Cultural Amalgamation

Abstract

During the period of Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasty, the country was in a state of separation and military confrontation, so the society was in turmoil, the class and national conflict was intense and complicated. As a consequence, the rulers in each dynasty had tried to maintain their dominance by using the method of legislation, so the legislative actions were very active. Tai Shi Lv (Tai Shi Code) made in Jin Dynasty, was a major achievement of West Jin and Southern Dynasty, so it was not only a comprehensive summary of Han Lv (Han Code), but also the crystallization of the age which reflected the historical trend of “the Confucianization of law,” so it had a far-reaching influence.
