Abstract

In the fall 2006 issue of the Journal of Museum Education Dennis Schatz provided a list of reference materials on what he felt were new competencies required by all museum educators outside of their normal content area ex pertise: how to be competitive in an information and opportunity-rich envi ronment, how to foster better collaboration, and how to achieve a more thorough understanding of how visitors learn in today's museums. Schatz argued that museum educators must be comfortable wearing many hats in order the contemporary museum educator to be successful.1 In this edition of the Journal, I called upon all the contributing authors to put forth their recommendations for essential readings centered on the three areas of leadership explored throughout this edition: pedagogical leadership, organizational leadership, and change leadership. The ref erences listed below are intended to accompany the many additional lit erature references found within the articles in this journal. This is by no means an exhaustive list but rather, a place to start.
