Abstract
Most educators are familiar with copyright and fair use practices. However, there are new considerations for copyright and fair use on the web. Information technology educators need to become aware of the new laws pertaining to copyright. The 1996 Telecommunications Act, the 1998 Digital Millenium Act, and the Teach Act are important for their implications for copyright. In addition, software engineering educators need to be aware of laws pertaining to access, privacy and accessibility when providing course material on the web. These issues are extremely important for not only copyright issues, but also for personal privacy issues. In addition, educators need to understand patents, trademarks and ethics pertaining to their teaching. The new emerging technologies affect how we teach and what we are doing with our materials is important for all educators to know.
