Abstract
Islam wants to fulfill basic economic needs of everyone in the society as the absence of basic needs lead to different type of crimes. The Zakat is considered by Muslims to be an act of piety through which one expresses concern of the well-being of fellow Muslims, as well as preserving social harmony between the wealthy & poor. The concept of zakat was even present before the advent of Islam in the revealed religions, but its principles and methods were different. In this article, comparison of Zakat in Islamic system is being made with other religions to show similarities and differences among them.
