Abstract
Actinium(III) oxalate decahydrate, Ac2(C 2O 4)3·10H 2O has been prepared by precipitation of a purified Ac 3+ solution with oxalic acid. The colorless compound was found to be isomorphous with La 2(C2O 4)3·10H 2O. Its powder pattern was interpreted in terms of a monoclinic unit cell, space group P2 1 c , with the lattice constants a = 11.26 Å, b = 9.97 Å, c = 10.65 A ̊ , β = 111.3° . With two formula units per unit cell, the calculated density is 2.68 g cm −3. The procedure used in the purification of the actinium stock is described.
