Abstract

Abstract Various theoretical frameworks are considered for the analysis of the language of the Old Latin Gospels, in particular ’Late Latin’, ’Vulgar Latin’, and ’Christian Sondersprache’. It is argued that Biblical Latin should be considered a distinct idiom, albeit one that draws on the language of its time and general cultural milieu.
