Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the usefulness of lateral thoracic flap in reconstructing maxillofacial sift tissue defects to improve the quality of life of the patients. Totally 17 cases with tissue defects in the maxillofacial region, caused by various disease, were collected during 2004–2006. The age of these patients ranged from 29–71 years (average, 48.4 years), the ratio of male to female was 12:5. The lateral thoracic flap or combined with the scapular flap were applied to reconstruct the defect of soft tissue and/or bone tissue.
