The Late Great Planet Earth - Bob Dylans apokalyptiske teologi fra 1979 til 1983

Abstract

In the autumn of 1978 Bob Dylan experienced a much publicized conversion to Christianity. The next spring he attended a Bible school, where he met the author and preacher Hal Lindsey. Lindsey had formulated his apocalyptic theology in the bestselling book The Late Great Planet Earth. This book had a huge influence in many Christian churches. This article shows that Lindsey’s influence is very much present in Dylan’s songwriting from 1979 to 1983. Just like Lindsey Dylan also preached that the politics of his own day, or of the near future, was the fulfilment of biblical prophecy. He also suggested in which order this would take place, and this order matches to a large extent Lindsey’s order of the end times.
