Abstract

Webinars are becoming more and more frequent in both teacher training and professional development programmes as they provide a great opportunity to connect and interact with like-minded colleagues from around the world and support your own professional development. Stellar examples of regular online events are the IATEFL monthly webinar series and the online conference for World Teachers’ Day, jointly organised by IATEFL and the British Council in October 2019 (see Wilden 2020). Since 2017, the Learner Autonomy Special Interest Group (LASIG) webinar series has offered educators the unique opportunity to stay up-to-date and learn more about the latest developments in the field of learner autonomy. Our online events address educators from K-12 classrooms, teacher trainers, and EFL/ESL practitioners as well as colleagues in self-access and advising, out-of-class, and tandem learning contexts. Ranging from topics such as skills development and digital tools in foreign language learning to inclusion and differentiation, our webinars provide new insights into approaches, materials and research in the field of learner autonomy. Participants can request an attendance certificate, and the recordings of past events are available to IATEFL members in the members area on www.iatefl.org and in the LASIG members’ area on https://lasig.iatefl.org/what-is-lasig/.
