Abstract

The results of laser-produced bead-on-plate type welds and lap welds of Al-Li-Cu-Mg-Zr (8090) sheets are presented. Full penetration welds were obtained in 4.3 mm thick sheets at speeds of about 20 mm/s using a 2 KW fast axial flow CO2 laser. Porosity was encountered in some of the welds.
