Abstract

This article examines the state of the Scottish Liberal Party in 1914 through the lens of its attitude to land reform, in particular Lloyd George's Land Campaign of 1912-14. It concludes that whilst the Scottish form of the Land Campaign was not as radical in some ways as its English counterpart, it was an effective way of holding Scottish Liberals together and persuading the whole party to gradually accept more social reform.
