Abstract
The lamellar liquid crystal in the water, non-ionic surfactant (i.e. tetraethyleneglycol dodecyl ether) and copper(II) nitrate system was analyzed using optical microscopy and low-angle X-ray diffraction. The results showed stability of the liquid crystal to extremely high copper(II) nitrate content; a maximum copper(II) nitrate/water weight ratio of 1.30 was achieved. The interlayer spacing remained constant, from the structure with water and without salt to the lamellar liquid crystal with the highest salt content.
