Abstract

Anna returned to Ireland in the late summer of 1880. She disliked the climate in New Jersey — the extreme cold in winter and the steamy summer heat which seemed to spawn a new species of gigantic insect each year — and she believed that she was only really well in Ireland. Besides, events at home where the land agitation was reaching a crisis were a powerful magnet to lure her back.
