Abstract
California is uniquely free of the shortage of well-trained clinical laboratory technologists that currently prevails elsewhere in the nation. Yet its standards for both laboratory personnel and laboratory performance are the country's highest. This article reviews the 40-year voluntary and continuing effort that underlies this achievement.
