Abstract

The manufacturing cell in the factory environment is a physical object performing a defined production program. The level of performance, flexibility, cost, time and reliability is determined through systems engineering. The main effort is concentrated upon the design process in order to obtain defined objectives of the manufacturing cell. The output is production. Laboratory environment could be established as a mixed structure. It varies between real and simulation conditions in a laboratory. The manufacturing cell in the laboratory environment contains hardware units and software support. The main hardware units are machine tools and a computer having some special features. The content of the software support can be shaped in different directions and support can be shaped in different directions and levels. Research, development and teaching are the main activities. The simulation environment supposes pure simulation combining computer and special software. The paper gives the laboratory concept developed at the Mechanical Engg. Faculty - Beograd in collaboration with domestic industry.
