Abstract
Since the death of Sun Yat-sen in 1925, there had been fierce contention for leadership of the KMT between Hu Hanming, Wang Jingwei, and Chiang Kaishek, leading to internal dissension and conflict. The contention between Wang Jingwei and Chiang Kai-shek, being the most bitter, led to civil war. For example, in October 1927 Wang Jingwei and Tang Shengzhi acted in concert to launch an anti-Chiang offensive from Wuhan. In November of the same year, Wang Jingwei allied himself with Zhang Fakui and launched another offensive against Chiang from Guangzhou. Then in May 1930, Wang Jingwei, Yan Xishan, and Feng Yuxiang called a joint meeting in Peiping (now Beijing), joined forces and launched another anti-Chiang military attack.
