Abstract

This paper is concerned with the preparation, characterization and thermolysis of perchlorate salt of 2, 3- and 4-aminopyridines. Thermal and explosion characteristics of these salts have been studied by TG, simultaneous TG-DSC and explosion delay measurements. The kinetics of thermal decomposition was evaluated by model fitting and isoconversional methods using isothermal TG data. The proton transfer (N–H bond heterolysis) from heterocyclic cation to ClO4− ion is the primary step followed by exothermic oxidation–reduction reactions that lead to explosion.
