Abstract

The kinetics of the reaction of benzoyl peroxide with potassium iodide in 95.1% and absolute ethanol at 11°, 20° and 30° has been studied. The reaction is of the first order with respect to the concentration of each reactant. Rates of sixteen substituted benzoyl peroxides conform to Hammett's law with negative ϱ values. The mechanism of the reaction is discussed.
