Abstract

Rate coefficients for the CS 2OH and CS 2OD+O 2 reactions were measured by monitoring OH and OD in excess CS 2 as a function of [O 2] and time. The rate coefficient for CS 2OD+O 2 was (2.3 ± 0.4) × 10 −14 cm 3 molecule −1 s −1 in 50 Torr He at 273 K. No kinetic isotope effect was observed ( k H k D =1.05 ± 0.18) suggesting that the reaction mechanism is not direct H atom abstraction by O 2. Rate coefficients for OH and OD (A 2Σ +) + CS 2 were also measured and found to be equal.
