Abstract

Quasistationary population distributions are derived and used to examine rotational kinetics and the kinetics of recombination and ionization in plasmas. The possibility of increasing the efficiency of lasers in the far infrared and submillimeter ranges is studied. Lasers using low-temperature plasmas of both simple and complex (mixture of elements) chemical composition are examined. The basic relationships for moving plasma lasers (plasma-dynamic and pinch discharge lasers) are calculated. The kinetics of multiply charged ion plasmas is considered. The theory of high-current discharges is used to evaluate the feasibility of using them as powerful light sources.
