Abstract
The pseudo potential energy term U( ρ) obtained from the kinetic energy term of the Hougen-Bunker-Johns (HBJ) rotation-vibration Hamiltonian has been obtained in general to order of magnitude κ 2 T v . The expression obtained is relatively easy to evaluate and should be used in any semirigid bender or nonrigid bender Hamiltonian that is derived from the HBJ Hamiltonian.
