Abstract

Purpose: Joint instability is a substantial contributor to cartilage degeneration and induce osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee. Besides, mechanical stress alters physiology or pathophysiology of articular cartilage and contribute the OA progression. Anterior cruciate ligament-transection (ACLT) model is widely used as knee OA model and induce OA during a few weeks. Previous reports showed that regaining joint stability after ACLT by controlled abnormal joint movement (CAM) delay the progression of OA via suppress inflammatory cytokines. On this model, the kinematically change by knee stabilization may affect the change of mechanical stress to cartilage.
