Abstract

Chile's republic, proclaimed on June 4, 1932, and lasting until June 16, is an important page in the Chilean revolutionary movement. Studies by Soviet scholars on Chile1 have illuminated the history of the republic in a general way, but it has not always been adequately explained. In recent years, there has been a considerable increase in interest in the republic and in the history of the socialist movement in Chile in general.2 For example, considerable space is devoted to it in I. Lavretskii's book on Salvador Allende, a founder of and a great activist in the Socialist Party of Chile.3
