Abstract
In this chapter we focus on an analysis of teaching resources and specific school-based programmes in order to explore in more detail the extent to which the general criticisms are evident in teaching practice. In 2013, Kristjan Kristjansson, the Deputy Director of the Jubilee Centre, published an article discussing what he regarded as ‘Ten Myths about Character, Virtue and Virtue Education’ and in so doing attempted to establish a robust case in defence of character education. In this chapter, we analyse some of the educational resources produced by the Centre for use in classrooms, and in doing so we aim to investigate what character education looks like in practice and the extent to which the Jubilee Centre has implemented the principles defended by Kristjansson. We conclude that the resources fall short of Kristjansson’s defence, and actually demonstrate all of the failings he seeks to deny.
