Kain This paper is to some extent a examination of some of the research findings of the author's doctoral dissertation presented to the Department of the Economics at the University of California in 1961. Data were made available through the generosity of the Detroit Area Traffic Study. This paper was completed during the author's employment with the RAND Corporation on its study of urban transplantation for the Ford Foundation.
