Abstract

Abstract The Ground Elevation Meter is a self contained, precision levelling system, fully mobile, suitable for all-weather day or night operation. It is fitted with a high speed transistorized electronic computer which continuously calculates relative elevation data from distance and inclination detectors. This data is presented visually and is also printed as required on paper tape. The rugged construction of vehicle and equipment permits operation over all types of terrain. It will operate under adverse visibility conditions which makes levelling by optical methods impracticable. The advantages of this surveying system over the more usual methods are found in greater speed of operation. Under favourable conditions it is possible to survey as much as 100 miles in an ordinary working day. The accuracy achieved, while not as good as precision spirit levelling, compares favourably with transit alidade, and barometric levelling.
