Abstract

The JFEC Invited Lecture is without a doubt one of the most important synergies created by the joint venture of the Journal of Financial Econometrics (JFEC) and the Society for Financial Econometrics (SoFiE). The Lecture figures prominently at the annual meetings of the Society and occupies a special place in the Journal as well. The first JFEC Lecture was delivered by Halbert White during the Inaugural conference of SoFiE on June 4, 2008 in New York. Halbert White was an obvious choice for many reasons. One particular reason was the fact that the very first submission to the Journal when JFEC was launched was a paper he co-authored. It was obviously a vote of confidence in the future of the Journal. He also brought his constant support to the journal by being a member of the Advisory Board. By asking Halbert White to deliver the very first JFEC Invited Lecture, we wanted to make a clear statement about the scope of the Lecture series. It is meant to be a plenary session with a paper presented by a senior leading scholar in the field for financial econometrics. The paper undergoes a formal review process and is published in JFEC as lead article. The article is preceded by an Editorial Announcement highlighting the work of the invited speaker.
